In Lou's case I am strongly in the early is better camp, the 4 VU albums and the first 4 Lou Reed albums so out weigh his last 15 or so albums I can't even see a comparison being warranted. However here is a late career masterpiece performed by a for me a dream teaming, louvis.

agreed and I was never making any case otherwise except to say New York is an exceptional album, easily one of his best imo. My only point is how often does an artist make one of their master peices so late in their career? I wouldn't call New York his masterpeice but I would count it as one of his. I agree with everything you said, aside from New York I really think all his later output after Coney Island Baby ( which I think is a good album ) are nowhere near his early stuff. Quite a bit of his early solo stuff was just reworking of his VU stuff anyway.

I wasn't disagreeing with you at all JOTS,you made really good points in each post in this thread,I was just stating a preference for Lou's early stuff.I think New York is a great album and agree that it is unusual for an artist to put out something so good 20 odd years into their career, only the really special ones do.
